MACO, Its Role in Optinizing Farmers’ Harvest Distribution

At Yayasan Bina Tani Sejahtera (YBTS), the commitment to empowering farmers extends beyond the fields. While our Technical Field Officer (TFO) team provides invaluable guidance on good agricultural practices (GAP), the Market Access & Connectivity Officer (MACO) team ensures that the yields of our farmers reach the markets where they can thrive. This comprehensive support system is crucial for creating a sustainable and prosperous agricultural sector.

Adyanto, an exemplary member of the MACO team in Kupang, has a multifaceted role. He excels in building strong relationships with various vendors and potential buyers, ensuring that farmers’ produce is effectively distributed. Additionally, Adyanto guides farmers in establishing connections with vendors and buyers, using his expertise to understand market demands and align them with farmers’ production capabilities.

A young farmer, Maria Oct. Abi, has greatly benefited from Adyanto’s support. With his help, Maria sold 500 kg of watermelon to a supermarket in Kupang. This sale, at Rp 10,000 per kilogram, brought her a total of Rp 5,000,000. The transaction not only showcased the quality of Maria’s produce but also the trust vendors have in YBTS-supported farmers. This opened up a significant market opportunity for Maria.

Adyanto’s role highlights the importance of MACO in helping young farmers distribute their produce to wider markets. The presence of MACO boosts the confidence of young farmers, providing them with knowledge and skills to face agricultural challenges. This not only increases productivity but also strengthens the local economy by developing a generation of skilled and innovative farmers.
